RYA VHF Radio Course (On-line)

The RYA VHF Radio Online Course can be taken on your PC, Mac or iPad letting you learn at your own pace in your own time anywhere worldwide.

This course is for anyone who owns a Marine VHF Fixed or Handheld set. The Marine VHF Radio is an important piece of safety equipment onboard, understanding the correct procedures when operating the VHF Radio is vital and could save you or your crews’ lives.

The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control or operate the VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged leisure vessels voluntarily fitted with a fixed or handheld Marine VHF Radio.

IMPORTANT: Although the RYA VHF licence is recognized in many countries it’s not recognized in Hong Kong by OFCA.  Hong Kong have their own local VHF certification so this licence can not be used in Hong Kong to register a VHF radio or get an MMSI number.  If you have a need to use a VHF radio in Hong Kong then we recommend you attend a local radio course such as those supplied by the RHKYC.  This RYA course it primarily made available for those who wish to charter a yacht in countries outside of Hong Kong that mandate the need for a VHF licence (e.g. most Mediterranean countries) and doing the Hong Kong licence is not practical due to your circumstances.
